Who is Skitter?

Skitter is an American red fox, also known as vulpes vulpes fulvus and is just about the friendliest critter you'll ever encounter. Foxes are interesting creatures, they act like a cat and dog, but are neither, and yet, foxes are related to dogs. Their behaviors are quirky, they are very hyper and have seemingly unlimited amounts of energy, they can be destructive indoors, but despite all these, they are capable of being very loving towards people, she even allows you to pet her head, muzzle, ears, tail, and she repays you with affection. Despite her being "wild" she never bites people, but she does mouth them. Mouthing is how canids feel objects and is rarely done out of aggression, moreover, it's painless.  I felt perfectly safe when I was in her enclosure, plus she's very, very adorable.

The sanctuary I work at is located in Utah, just thirty minutes south of Provo, in a town called Genola, where the laws on exotic animals are the most lax in the state, but the facility is still USDA licensed  and the couple who run are fantastic people to work with! I work there as a volunteer because to me, doing it for the animals is more important then taking care of them for money.

I will continue to update my blog with pictures as I continue to volunteer at the animal sanctuary, my internship. I hope you enjoy these pictures as much as I do!
